Hot Mic'd: See ya McCarthy, catch you know who on Cameo, and the ERA

Trend Report ‘23: Cameo is the new OnlyFans

Something that had me go “oh boy” this week was… Kevin McCarthy throwing in the towel. Mans really went peace out cub scout. I’m super curious what he does next, but given that he’s an astute fundraiser, I’m going to guess it’ll be something in that realm of GOP politics. - SK

Something that made me chuckle this week was… there’s a holiday office decorating contest in the halls of Congress aka the Longworth House Office Building amongst the reps and people have been getting funny with it, even if you don’t agree with them. - SK

Something that needs more eyes on it is… In Texas a judge gave permission for a woman to get an abortion whose fetus had a lethal abnormality. Yes, read that again with even more detail - a woman with a wanted pregnancy was being denied a medically necessary abortion all over the state due to Texas’s HIGHLY restrictive abortion laws that if not done would harm her and her fertility. Good on the judge, but absolutely F these state legislators that have put a woman’s health, life, and future in the hands of a judge. - SK

Some thoughts on the GOP debate are… they’re still doing them? Jesus. Kidding, fundamentally they’re important, but I can only digest in clips at this point. - SK

Something that had me go “oh boy” this week was… What is with the electors?! People ask are the kids alright, but people should really be asking are the electors alright because… this. Six Republicans in NV were indicted for “falsely pledged the state’s electoral votes to Donald Trump in 2020 as Trump sought to reverse his loss to Joe Biden in the state.” YOU GUYS HAD ONE JOB. ONE! Good that they’re being held accountable. Bad that this happened in the first place. - MM

Something that made me chuckle this week was… I’m sorry to say it, but every single one of these George Santos Cameos. They’re so freaking funny. I also think this gives an inside look on how MLMs are still around. If George we’re running an MLM – which talk about a missed career opportunity – it would be on fire. Eventually it would implode, but you get the gist. - MM

Something that needs more eyes on it is… Trump’s interviews on what he’s going to do if elected for a second term. He’s saying in the most literal terms what his plans are – spoiler: they’re not good, they’re dangerous and terrifying. I think some people are just so tired of hearing about him that they’re skirting by it, but we really, really can’t. - MM

Some thoughts on the GOP debate are… I tried, I really tried. But then I had to pack and that’s just not good packing energy. Apparently four million people watched though. Good for them! - MM

In DC on the 13th? RSVP to and go to  the ERA Coalition March

December 13th is Taylor Swift’s birthday – v important, obvi. It’s also the 100 year anniversary of the ERA being introduced in the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, however, 100 years later the ERA is still MIA in the Constitution. Just a minor, lil’ problem for all of us that want equal rights. Anyways, on said anniversary, the ERA Coalition is holding a march in DC to build awareness and momentum for getting the ERA on track to become a reality. The march is going to move from location to location, each with a significant role to play in ensuring the ERA’s publication. Speakers will share the deats at each stop. If you’re ‘round the DC town on the 13th, you can register to attend here

A petition to sign and send

While medium and heavy-duty vehicles make up less than 10% of vehicles on US roads, they produce more than a third of the climate pollution associated with transportation [big yikes]. Earlier this year, the EPA proposed revised greenhouse gas standards for heavy-duty trucks and buses, which are a significant source of dangerous air pollution nationwide that disproportionately impacts communities of color. Together with other “Clean Truck” rules issued by the Biden Administration, the standards will remove hundreds of thousands of tons of pollution from the air and prevent nearly 3,000 annual deaths and hospitalizations resulting from respiratory illnesses. These rules need to be finalized ASAP. Tell the EPA to make that action happen by signing this petition from the Sierra Club.
