Hot Mic'd: Romney retirement reactions, Raskin on right-wing sugar daddies [his words not ours], what we're texting about, & more
Sometimes it feels like we’re living in a soap opera. Then we just realize we’ve caught up on this week’s political news. Le sigh. Let’s get into it:
Elected Official - Rose: Rep. Raskin using the term right-wing sugar daddies is just chef's kiss and totally on point when talking about dark money funding and influencing SCOTUS decisions. -SK Elected Official - Thorn: The motherfuckin’ Wisconsin GOP. Reason 1, reason 2, reason 3. Scream. Anyways, here’s an action item to help with one of the reasons. -SK The political story I keep hitting refresh on is… Romney’s retirement – but not for the reason you’re thinking [that’s featured at the base of this newsletter]. The reason it’s so on my mind is because the retirement led to the release of a portion of his upcoming book as featured in an Atlantic article. In the article, he shares how he texted Mitch McConnell with security warnings from the Pentagon about January 6 and never heard back. Absolutely bone chilling to think about. -SK The social media trend that’s got me hitting the like button is… I’m so obsessed with Tube Girl, like I literally can’t even. Find me attempting to do this at the Wall St. stop of the J/Z. Or actually don’t, because there is no way I’m coordinated enough with the back camera to make it look as iconic. BUT WE WILL TRY. -SK Restaurant on my radar: I really love a tasting menu, and for that I’m dying to try Roscioli. Getting a reservation though…lord help me…anyone know a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy??? -SK A nail color I’m curious to try is: If you’re someone that sticks to the not wearing white after labor day rule, you’re going to roll your eyes at my current pick. This pink just feels vibrant and juicy, and I need it. -SK And a question running through my mind is… Remember when impeachment actually meant something… TBT. -SK | Elected Official - Rose: We are Fetterman stan podcast, okay?! But like who are we kidding, if you’re receiving this newsletter, there’s a high probability that you already knew that. Anyway, the stan behavior is getting a level-up after Fetterman provided an A+ reaction to reporters over McCarthy pushing ahead with a Biden impeachment inquiry. As Sheena would say, it’s good as gold. -MM Elected Official - Thorn: This is so easy this week. It’s Kevin McCarthy for being a spineless wench, a term we don’t use nearly enough. His impeachment antics and inability to temper the dangerous bullshit of the House Freedom Caucus [HFC], really makes him a laughable figure on both sides of the aisle. I’d almost feel badly for him for the rock and a hard place he constantly finds himself in, but then I think about how he’s in the front shirt pocket of Trump, and empathy really leaves my mind. -MM The political story I keep hitting refresh on is… The Thomas Twosome as we call them and their never-ending scandals. Is there a dark money pot they aren’t connected to?? Rep. Stansbury’s response to its impact and threat to democracy it presents on a silver platter hits on what I’m feeling on this for sure. -MM The social media trend that’s got me hitting the like button is… It’s not really a trend, it’s more of a new capability that I’m loving and I hope we use more of. It’s the fact that Insta is now letting posts have three collaborators, which is so great because honestly most things in politics include numerous collaborators. It doesn't mean every party involved can be included, it’s still only three, but it’s something. And the improved reach with it def makes me excited. -MM Restaurant on my radar: I want pizza at all times, and I have my eye on Square Pie Guys. Heard the best things about it, and I really want to try it. If you’ve been, reply to this email and let me know what I should order :) tysm xoxo. -MM A nail color I’m curious to try is: Is it trying it if I just haven’t worn it in a bit because it’s been summer?! This ESSIE color is a go-to and fall fave that I’m going to be bringing back. RIP Bubble Bath – for now. -MM And a question running through my mind is… Lauren Boebert vapes…? -MM |

What’s new, what’s next episode-wise?
When you think of the US garment industry, what do you think of? For us, it was the American Apparel scandals and the Triangle Shirtwaist fires. Safe to say, we needed an update on what’s been going on and what needs to happen to improve it in every which way. In our latest eppy, we got the 411 on the status quo, and the FABRIC Act, which would say toodles to piece rate pay an ugly heinous loophole that hurts workers, incentivize US-based industry, and put eyes on wage theft – and so much more. Tune in to learn about the more and beyond on Apple Podcasts, Spotify Podcasts, and YouTube.
Also, before you go, let your reps know, you want them to co-sponsor and pass the FABRIC Act.
