Hot Mic'd: Butts, Elbows, and George Santos' Botox

“Stand your butt up” – an actual, literal member of the Senate

If I were to give Congress a nickname right now it would be… “Fight Club.” - SK

Something that caught my eye was… terrifyingly this – that young people on TikTok are not just sharing a letter penned by terrorist Osama Bin Laden, but are justifying his actions. I’m often not shocked when insane things happen anymore, but this one really takes me for a ride. The ‘how did we get here’ question is taking up a solid amount of brain space rn. - SK

Something positive I saw on my feed… I know we covered this in Gov Hub on Monday briefly, but I cannot overstate how excited I am that Dr. Biden is going to be leading the first-ever White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research. The health and research gap for women is immense, and I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a doctor and not seen that up close and personal. Literally the last time I was at the gyno this was something my doctor and I talked about – that there are so many conditions and symptoms that have not been given their day in research and it’s preventing positive health outcomes to literally more than 50% of the population. Cannot wait to see where this initiative goes. - SK

…and something PAWsitive I spotted on my feed… this little cutie woof all decked out in blue and ready for a boop. I’m in love, it’s fine. - SK

A book I have on my ‘want to read’ list is… Rachel Maddow has a new book and has been doing a press tour around, which was successful in making me aware of the book. Brava to the PR team! The book is called ‘Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism.’ A wee bit timely, dare we say! - SK

A hot take that I have brewing is… that as much as I love Tan France, he was driving a sinking ship moderating the Selling Sunset reunion. What makes Andy so good at doing the Bravo show reunions is that he generally knows most of the housewives and is more intimately connected to their drama and personalities. Tan in this case was too far removed from it to be able to peel back the onion layers. If they do a reunion next time around, they should pull in a producer-like figure to moderate. - SK

If I were to give Congress a nickname right now it would be… “The Men Need Therapy HQ.” - MM

Something that caught my eye was… this article featuring opinions from voters on VP Harris versus President Biden. What I found most interesting was that there are voters that look at the results of Trump policies or actions like the overturning of Roe v. Wade and abortion bans, and view Biden as the reason for them because the overturning/bans happened during the Biden administration. We clearly have a big disconnect on actions versus results, and I’m sure this is the case with other issues too. What we’re doing in our messaging to voters is going to have to strongly account for this. - MM

Something positive I saw on my feed… George Santos saying he’s not running for re-election. Although I do have questions on where he gets his botox done… does he in some weird way provide a needed comic relief? Yes. Do we need that comic relief to be a criminal walking the halls of Congress with the power to make decisions for thousands of Americans? No. We can and should look to Netflix comedy specials for that — and if anyone from Netflix is reading this, please give Hannah Berner a special. TYSM. - MM

…and something PAWsitive I spotted on my feed… just look at that smile!!!! Literally living the best dog life ever rolling in some grass and daisies. Biggie would get the vibes and so do I. - MM

A book I have on my ‘want to read’ list is… Mitt Romney’s new bio…? Kidding, that’s Sam’s territory. I am super curious about Adam Kinzinger’s book, ‘Renegade: Defending Democracy and Liberty in Our Divided Country.’ He’s just such an interesting person in general, so I’m curious. - MM

A hot take that I have brewing is…  Former President Bill Clinton’s portrait at the National Portrait Gallery is so strange. I get it - we’re trying to be artistic and such, but it just makes me dizzy. There should be a warning on – “pic of president gets trippy.” - MM
