Hot Mic'd: Best political Halloween costumes, 200 eppys, Kim K's new BFF

We don’t remember buying tickets to this circus, but here we are.

One of my fave LOL moments from 200 eppys of the pod is… If only we had a blooper reel…except we kind of love making fun of ourselves so, y’all see a lot of it. I would say one of my fave LOL moments is one that made the cut, and it’s when we were interviewing now Senator Welch, I called Mitch McConnell a cockblock without hesitation. You can hear how he responded here. - SK

The thing I’m most excited for when thinking about the next 100 eppys is… all of the people that we’ll get to meet. One of the coolest parts about having the pod is that we’ve gotten to not just connect with new people, but have gotten to real conversations with depth with people that provide an array of perspectives and knowledge. Can’t wait to see who we meet next! - SK

A ‘24 happening on my radar is… Susheela Jayapal, the older sister of Rep. Pramila Jayapal is running for Congress in Oregon. Something about it just really hits in the warm and fuzzies category. - SK

The best political Halloween costume this year goes to… I absolutely loved this ‘I’m just a bill’ costume – especially since it provided the perfect excuse to stitch it with this. - SK

A pop culture story I’ve got my eyes on is…. It’s not even a story [yet]. It’s BravoCon being this weekend, and really all of the tea and wow moments that I expect to come out of it. From Summer House Lindsey and Carl to the Potomac ladies who are my absolute faves, I expect great things. Find me popping reactions and memes into our Bravo Support Group thread. - SK

One of my fave LOL moments from 200 eppys of the pod is… hands down when one of friends in the DC comms realm on the hill went on a Hinge date and her Hinge date asked her if she’d heard of our show. Perhaps the most niche funny 15 minutes of fame one can have, but I still lol about it to this day. - MM

The thing I’m most excited for when thinking about the next 100 eppys is… we’ve covered deep dives on a ton of different political positions at every level, but far from all. Like not even close to all. I’m so excited to continue learning about what all of these roles do myself and also bringing y’all along with us on this journey. - MM

A ‘24 happening on my radar is… This week has had two GOP players announce that they won’t be seeking re-election, which is super interesting. It doesn’t look like it’ll change the balance of party power, but their reasonings are certainly worth thinking about – they kinda echo the Romney retirement of it all. - MM

The best political Halloween costume this year goes to… This Tucker Carlson and woke M&M’s costume had me cryinnnnnng. - MM

A pop culture story I’ve got my eyes on is…. Ummmm Sophie Turner being seen out smooching this mans. I am so here for it. Although they kinda look alike…like cousin adjacent? But that’s also kinda a thing people do, like are into people that look like themselves? So? Whatever, go off queen. - MM

200 EPPYS OF THE POD

And cheers to many more

Joe, we did it – we officially have hit 200 episodes of Girl and the Gov, The Podcast! Cue the balloons! The champagne! The confetti! And this episode is def big 2-0-0 energy because we’re talking about the fight for student debt cancellation with Melissa Byrne, the Founder of We, the 45 Million. We’re looking at the background like how many students in the US have student debt, we’re getting into the weeds with members of Congress who’ve had their PPP loans canceled, we’re looking to the future with plans being negotiated now, and so much more. It’s a beginners guide to a big, big issue, which you can listen to on Apple Podcasts, Spotify Podcasts, and YouTube:

We did issue a small correction for a tidbit in our intro. You can find the correction in the episode description here and here.

The gossip side of politics

  • Wisconsin is considering making this cocktail its offish state cocktail – and also looking to become the first state to even have an offish state cocktail.

  • Kim Kardashian trying to soft launch Ivanka Trump back into the pop culture sphere or something of that sort at her bday party and with this playdate.

  • Lots of talk about DeSantis’s boots – from analysis to commentary from Nikki Haley.

  • Speaking of boots, George Santos managed not to get booted from Congress. If you participated in our IG poll on what would happen with this, you are not surprised by the outcome. Neither are we.
